Character Name: Richard Brooks / Eidolon
Character Journal: http://eidolon34.dreamwidth.org/
Physical Description:
Richard stands around five feet and nine inches tall. He has a slender but muscular build, and he has dark brown hair and blue eyes. He has a scar on the left side of right calf from a climbing accident. He tends to wear jeans, t-shirts, sneakers and a jacket regardless of the weather.
Age: 17
DOB: June 25th, 1996
PB: Logan Lerman
Character Location/Home: Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in Westchester, NY
Alignment: X-Men
Relatives: Amelia Voght-Brooks (Mother, Living), Nigel Brooks (Father, Living), Unnamed Siblings
Abilities:
Mutation: Richard has his mother's powers which allows him to transform objects like weapons, people and his body into this kind of mist form that makes it nearly impossible to hurt him. He can also control the flow of this vapor which allows him to move himself , people or objects that he has turned into mist very quickly with his mind(e.g. flight/teleportation). He is capable of getting into tight spaces while in this form, so it is very easy to escape pursuers or infiltrate places that normally wouldn't be accessible.
1.) 30 minutes is usually his limit on keeping one person in the mist state when he can concentrate. It proportionally decreases from there when doing it to more than one person (2:15, 3:10, 4:5).
2.) His personal best is to hold the form for one hour before reverting back to his normal state.
3.) Basically, the force from suction or a strong gust of wind would break Richard's control over the person or object, which would revert this person or object to its original state along with sending it or them flying toward whatever may be in the direction that the force was going in.
4.) Telepathy: Vulnerable to mid to high level telepaths
Telekinesis: Can be contained or moved by telekinesis
Energy: Not Very Vulnerable.
Sonic: Vulnerable
Non-Corporeal: Not Vulnerable.
5.)He can see and hear while in mist form.
6.) 20 miles (short range compared to his mother's ability to travel everywhere)
Skills: Against his father's wishes, Richard's mother taught him a little about hand to hand combat to protect himself from getting mugged on the streets, but he is nowhere near the level of anyone with proper training. His mother also gave him some training in first aid just in case he should run into someone who needed help.
Weaknesses and Flaws: In order to transform someone or something into mist, Richard must have eyes on the person or object, and it takes a great deal of focus to transform and keep anything in this mist form so distracting him mid-flight would be bad.
His powers can barely be used in an offensive manner, so he is pretty much useless in a serious fight. The mist form is also very susceptible to things like vacuums, gusts of wind and tornadoes that can redirect the vapor and break his concentration.
Unlike his mother, Richard is unable to transport his mist form through the astral plane, so he is limited to short range teleportation. Also, transforming multiple people or large objects can leave him exhausted, so he can currently only transform around four people other than himself without leaving him completely useless for hours.
Personality:
Richard is a kind young man who goes out of his way to help those around him that he sees suffering, which usually puts him in dangerous situations. He is an honest individual who knows how to word the hard truths so that they come off sounding nice. Most of the time, he tends to be quiet except when spoken to or when he has something that needs to be said.
Given what his parents do for a living, Richard has aspirations for learning medicine, which will be difficult for him as he is somewhat an average student. Of course, he is adamant about reaching his goal and won't let anything stop him. Outside of emergency situations, he does have a little trouble talking to pretty girls face to face even when he needs to tell them something, so Richard tends to resort to using alternative methods of communication for those instances.
Backstory:
After Amelia Voght cut ties with all of her former connections, she moved to Chicago where she got a job at a hospital as a nurse, and eventually she fell in love with a doctor, Nigel Brooks. After a couple of years and an extravagant wedding, the happy couple had a son named Richard. With a new son, the Brooks had to rearrange their schedules so that one of them was always there to take care of Richard, but the two had different ideas on what it meant to take care of him.
While his father chose to buy him toys and play games with his son, Amelia taught her son what he needed to survive like how to fight as she knew there was a strong possibility that he would be a mutant like her. Naturally, her husband was opposed to this, but he let it go on as Richard seemed to enjoy it.
When Richard was thirteen years old, his powers emerged. It happened one day when he was walking home from the bus stop and spotted some older kids trying to break into a car, so he yelled at them. This group didn’t take kindly to that, and they chased him into an alley. Seeing that he was outnumbered, Richard tried to defend himself as best he could, but the group dog piled him. He would have been seriously injured if his body hadn’t turned to mist and reformed inside of a dumpster. Once he realized that he was safe, Richard quickly ran home and told his parents what happened, which is when his mother revealed who and what she was.
Over the next several years, Richard’s mother did her best to teach him how to use his powers while reminding him that he needed to keep them a secret, but Richard couldn't help but use them to get other people out of some tight spots. It was eventually decided that Richard should be sent to the Xavier Institute where he can be properly trained in the use of his powers.
Sample Post:
Richard Brooks walked into the store with his mother’s grocery list in hand and a smile on his face. Now most people didn’t find grocery shopping fun, but Richard saw it as a sign that his mother was starting to trust him again after he broke his promise to stop using his powers in public. “Just to be safe, I should get all this stuff back quickly.”
This was easier said than done as he pretty much knew the store like the back of his hand after so many trips with his mother, but his helpful nature made him stop and assist other customers finding things which made a short trip into the store into a rather long one. Eventually, he gathered all of the necessary items on the list and made his way to check out, but when he got there a man ran into the store and pointed a shotgun at one of the cashier’s.
“Hand over all of the money or someone is going to get hurt,” the man proclaimed.
Now, Richard knew that he needed to do something in order to make sure that no one got hurt, so he slowly set his items down and walked toward the man with his hands raised. “Sir, there is no need for this to go any further,” said the young mutant. He was trying to model his words after what he had seen the good guy say on television, so it might have sounded odd coming from someone so young. “Just put down the gun.”
“Shut up, kid, or I’m going to blow you away,” the man retorted.
Seeing as how the calm approach didn’t work, Richard was inclined to try his other option, so he focused on the gun for a bit and watched it turn into mist. He then proceeded to bring it to him, and it appeared in his left hand. “That is going to be pretty difficult without this, don’t you think?”
The robber was so shocked by the loss of his gun that he ran for the door, but he didn’t make it far as he got tripped by a red haired woman who turned to face Richard. “Son, I think we need to have a talk.”
